DARLYNE MENSCER, MD NATIONAL HEALTH &
WELLNESS OBSERVANCES
Darlyne Menscer, MD, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
and completed her family medicine residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now NOVEMBER
Carolinas Medical Center), as well as a fellowship in geriatrics at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is board-certified in both family medicine and geriatrics. American Diabetes Month n Diabetic Eye Disease Month
Lung Cancer Awareness Month n National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month
Now retired, Dr. Menscer was a former clinical associate professor of family medicine
at Atrium Health Elizabeth Family Medicine. National Epilepsy Awareness Month n National Family Caregivers Month
National Healthy Skin Month n National Home Care Month
Menscer was president of the Mecklenburg County Medical Society in 1996 and National Hospice and Palliative Care Month
a member of the Mecklenburg County Board of Directors for 24 years (director for
four years and ex-officio director for 20 years as the North Carolina Medical Society Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month n Prematurity Awareness Month
delegate to the American Medical Association).
November 1-December 31: Tie One On For Safety
A life-long member, Menscer served on and chaired several MCMS (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)
committees over the years:Alliance Free Pharmacy Study Committee,
Public Health Committee, Scholarship Committee and Committee on November 2: Color the World Orange for CRPS/RSD Awareness
Aging. She presently serves on the Editorial Board of this magazine. November 12: World Pneumonia Day

In addition, she represented the Mecklenburg County Medical November 13: World Kindness Day (Random Acts of Kindness)
Society in many community events and supported other Medical November 14: World Diabetes Day
DarlyneMenscer,MD Society initiatives throughout the years, such as building Habitat for
Humanity Houses in 1993, 1996 and 1999. Menscer received the President’s Award November 15: National Philanthropy Day
at the MCMS Annual Meeting in 2006 and again in 2014 in recognition for her service November 15: America Recycles Day
and leadership in North Carolina.
November 16-20 : American Education Week
Menscer also was president of the N.C. Medical Society in 2007 and president of the November 19: Great American Smokeout (American Cancer Society)
NCMS Foundation in 2012.
November 21: International Survivors of Suicide Day
She was on the Council on Medical Education from 2009 to 2017, serving as November 26: National Family Health History Day
Chair in 2016. Founded in 1904 to improve medical education in the United
States, the Council on Medical Education formulates policy on medical education DECEMBER
by recommending educational policies to the AMA House of Delegates, through
the AMA Board of Trustees.The Council also is responsible for recommending the International AIDS Awareness Month
appointments of representatives to medical education organizations, accrediting National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention (3D) Month
bodies and certification boards.

She was named in Charlotte Magazine as a top doctor multiple times over the years
in both family medicine and geriatrics. December 1: World AIDS Day
