Congratulations MedLink of Mecklenburg held its 7th Annual Community
Forum on April 9 at Project 658 on Central Avenue. The keynote

Four years ago, NC MedAssist began acknowledging volunteers and heard from providers about the challenges and resources
who stand out for their commitment to excellence in volunteer service available to assist immigrant families in the community.
at NC MedAssist, their commitment to the community and their
character. The award was named in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Donald
Joyce, long-standing community volunteers who gave generously of
their time, talent and treasure to many nonprofit organizations and
medical missions.
This year’s honoree of the Joyce Award for Excellence in
Volunteerism is Janice Huff, MD. Dr. Huff has volunteered at NC
MedAssist for the last 17 years in many different capacities. She
has served as volunteer medical director, member of the Board of
Directors and donor. Since 2002, she has served on the pharmacy
committee and works tirelessly as an ambassador for NC MedAssist
to ensure they are aware of new opportunities to serve the most
vulnerable in our community.
When it comes to ensuring opportunities for those in need, she is
an unwavering force. In her service to the community, Dr. Huff has
advocated for the uninsured within the Mecklenburg County Medical
Society by serving on the Physicians Reach Out Task Force, volunteering
her time at Charlotte Community Health Clinic and on the North
Carolina Medical Society’s access to health care committee. She has led
several physician leadership programs, both locally and at the
state level. She also has held several state positions,
such as president of the North Carolina Medical
Society Foundation and president of the North
Carolina Medical Board.
NC MedAssist is a nonprofit free
pharmacy that provides access to
lifesaving prescription medications,
patient support, advocacy, and related
services to vulnerable and uninsured
North Carolina residents.
