Fighting for Women
With Fashion 2015
By Mary T. Crowder, MD
Planning Committee Co-Chair
On October 6, members of the Women Physicians
Section of the Mecklenburg County Medical Society
(MCMS), along with members of the Charlotte Women
Attorneys, hosted the fifth annual “Fighting for Women
With Fashion” at the Foundation for the Carolinas
in uptown Charlotte. More than 300 guests enjoyed
delicious food by Best Impressions and wine from
Common Market, along with this year’s addition of
beer from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. The 12 female
models and eight male models were members of the
MCMS or the Charlotte Bar. They graced the runway
with fashions from Nordstrom and Kendra Scott, our
new jewelry fashion partner this year. The silent auc-
tion, raffle and new addition of a wine pull, together
with generous donations from 36 sponsors, four friends
of the event and our patrons in attendance, raised
$52,729.42 for Safe Alliance and the Clyde and Ethel
Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter in Charlotte. To
date, we have raised more than $180,000 to help build
the shelter, establish an onsite medical clinic and pro-
vide other ongoing services to local victims.
A big thank you to this year’s MCMS physician
models: Laura Danile, MD; Erin Goshorn, MD;
Monique May, MD; Leybelis Padilla, MD; Rhonda
Patt, MD; Gena Walker, MD; Ricardo Caicedo, MD;
Peter Capizzi, MD; Cary Fishburne, MD; Kevin Hsu,
MD; and Bernard Taylor, MD. To all our sponsors,
event patrons, in-kind sponsors and the staff of Safe
Alliance, thank you for helping us host another very
successful event.
If you missed the event this year, look for us in
October 2016 when we hope to raise even more money
for this wonderful cause. We encourage you to be a
sponsor, attend and even try “strutting your stuff” on
the runway! It is truly a night of fun and fashion for a
most worthy cause!
